Cherry Almond Bars

Here is a recipe I just ran across,it comes from a Gooseberry Patch cookbook. These are soooo YUMMY ...and easy too.
Cherry-Almond Bars

1 C shortening (I used those little Crisco bars that look like butter; one bar is 1 C)
2 C sugar
3 C all-purpose flour
4 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon almond extract
1 teaspoon salt
21-ounce can of cherry pie filling

Blend shortening and sugar together; add next 5 ingredients and mix well. Pour (this is like cookie dough so you may have to use your hands to pat it onto the cookie sheet) 3/4 of the batter into a greased 15"x10" jellyroll pan; spread cherry pie filling over the top. Dot with remaining batter (I drop it by teaspoonfuls all over the top); bake at 350 degrees for 30 to 35 minutes. Drizzle with Almond Glaze (below) while still warm; cut into bars to serve. Makes about 3 dozen bars.


Almond Glaze

1 C powdered sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
2 to 3 Tablespoons milk (I only needed 2; start small)

This is a OOAK GoldieLoo Woodworks design. I have made this sign before but this is the first one of this size (18" X 28" long). It is much larger than it looks.  I used a cabinet door given to me by a good friend of mine several years ago. I really love the way it turned out. I base coated it in Lamp Black & Oatmeal. Aged it all over for a nice Vintage look & feel.

Just in time for Summer is our new Flag Pokes. These are so so much fun to decorate with.Stick them in a old mason jar,crocks,vintage bottles or maybe a floral arrangement,the possibilities are endless.

I have made these out of 1/4 plywood,they each measure4 &1/4" X 5 & 1/2" and are around 15-16" tall. I have used a heavy gauge wire for the poke part and attached 2 rusty bells to each one.

These are priced at $6.50 each.
Currently I have 7 of these ready to go.

A swapping good time!

I got a wonderful package in the mail last week. From my new bestie, Lecia Stevenson. I have been admiring her Bonnets for sometime now & she was kind enough to suggest we do a swap.  We agreed on a Bonnet & Table Runner for one of my Blackboards. Of course the dear sweetheart she is she sent along some extras. I was lucky enough that I not only got one Bonnet but 2!  She also sent along a wonderful yummy candle.

Seems like its been forever since I have blogged about anything. Despite all the horrible flooding rain which has took its toll on the creeks and rivers here in the south we have had some nice sunny days.

And with those nice sunny days...besides seeing snakes we get to see a lot of new life, trees budding out and flowers popping up.

I was walking beside I old dog kennel in our yard the other day when I noticed some pine needles looked a bit out of place. Upon further inspection I could tell something was under it. So Chuck took a stick and gently moved the needles around which then exposed some fur. At first we thought it was a rabbits nest, we quickly covered it back up and left it alone. Today my curiosity got the better of me so I had Chuck use the stick to take another peek. The first time we seen them they had no hair but today they did and they had the marking of a chipmunk,minus the rabbit ears so we are pretty sure they are baby chipmunks. Hopefully I can snap a few more pictures before they leave the nest.

We have also been finding bunches of bird nest too around our place. Most of which have been mocking birds. This nest was built in my hubby's favorite tractor. I have to admit they built one in there so before they could lay eggs in the nest Chuck tore it out as he knew he was going to need his tractor. But a few days later we found another and with eggs so Chuck decided to leave them alone.

Pretty green grass and big blue skies.

 The Rose bush was loaded this spring!

Then amongst all the rain,snakes,birds & Chipmunks I got surprises!! Yeah me!
