Tribute To The Dog

While doing some research on the net today I ran across the story of Tribute To The Dog. I have read parts of it over the years but never read it all. I thought it was kind of neat.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
George Graham Vest (1830-1904) served as U.S. Senator from Missouri from 1879 to 1903 and became one of the leading orators and debaters of his time. This delightful speech is from an earlier period in his life when he practiced law in a small Missouri town. It was given in court while representing a man who sued another for the killing of his dog. During the trial, Vest ignored the testimony, but when his turn came to present a summation to the jury, he made the following speech and won the case.
Gentlemen of the Jury: The best friend a man has in the world may turn against him and become his enemy. His son or daughter that he has reared with loving care may prove ungrateful. Those who are nearest and dearest to us, those whom we trust with our happiness and our good name may become traitors to their faith. The money that a man has, he may lose. It flies away from him, perhaps when he needs it most. A man's reputation may be sacrificed in a moment of ill-considered action. The people who are prone to fall on their knees to do us honor when success is with us, may be the first to throw the stone of malice when failure settles its cloud upon our heads.
The one absolutely unselfish friend that man can have in this selfish world, the one that never deserts him, the one that never proves ungrateful or treacherous is his dog. A man's dog stands by him in prosperity and in poverty, in health and in sickness. He will sleep on the cold ground, where the wintry winds blow and the snow drives fiercely, if only he may be near his master's side. He will kiss the hand that has no food to offer. He will lick the wounds and sores that come in encounters with the roughness of the world. He guards the sleep of his pauper master as if he were a prince. When all other friends desert, he remains. When riches take wings, and reputation falls to pieces, he is as constant in his love as the sun in its journey through the heavens.
If fortune drives the master forth, an outcast in the world, friendless and homeless, the faithful dog asks no higher privilege than that of accompanying him, to guard him against danger, to fight against his enemies. And when the last scene of all comes, and death takes his master in its embrace and his body is laid away in the cold ground, no matter if all other friends pursue their way, there by the graveside will the noble dog be found, his head between his paws, his eyes sad, but open in alert watchfulness, faithful and true even in death.
My Afternoon Chat With The Crackling Crows
I had a wonderful chat this afternoon with the lovely and talented Artist Ivonne AKA The Crackling Crows. Ivonne and I have "known" each other through eBay and the prim world for 2 or so years now (correct me if I'm wrong Ivonne:)). Its funny to say we know each other when we have never met and until today never even spoke on the phone. But I think we did well making up for lost time, we chatted for around 3 hours. LOL, and I could have even talked for a few more hours. Ivonne is such a joy to talk to. I found we have even more in common than I ever knew. Ivonne has kindly featured me on her blog, Thank You Ivonne ! Maybe one day we can meet in person, set down to a big ole plate of chocolate chip cookies and have a nice long chat in person.
40 Something With Wrinkles
My girlfriends & I was at a craft show over the weekend and one of my friends could not stop worrying about her wrinkles. Maybe its because she is single. I know I have them, I just try not to look at them. :) We were buying some generic designer sunglasses and I found myself looking for the ones with the largest shades. I think that's because it covers more of my face which means more of my wrinkles ;) But really I feel there is nothing I can do about it so why worry or fret over it ? I thought this little video was really cute and really sums things up for us middle aged ladies. :)
My Swap gift From Cathy of My Heartfelt Designs! :)
Cathy Meyer AKA My Heartfelt Designs and I were swap partners in our eBay sellers group PAOET. Wow am I a lucky girl ! Look at this darling pillow she made just for me. This is her very own OOAK design. The pillow was made from woolens that she hand dyed.She then drew this Game Board pattern on linen. Then hooked it and then aged it with her walnut aging mixture. The wool backing is from the "Wool Studio" It is stuffed with wool scraps and fiberfill for a nice weighty old feel. She even sent me some awesome wax tarts. She got the tarts from http://www.thecandlesource.com/catalog/c28_p1.html Thanks again Cathy. You can find her awesome work on eBay under her ID hookedonprimitives and her ebay store My Heartfelt Designs .
About This Music ?
Although I am a Country girl, born & raised. And although I am a lover of Antiques & Primitives I love my Rock Music. When I was little, when I wasn't dreaming of becoming a Veterinarian and saving all the animals :) I was always singing (still can't sing) and listening to music. Although I love all kinds of music my true love is good old Rock & Roll. So while you're visiting my blog I hope my tunes don't drive you crazy. Or better yet, turn up your speakers and sing along !! :)
Well I have done it, my first blog !
One of the things I love to do is riding the old gravel roads. You can take these roads where I live and travel all day,maybe days without having to be on a paved road. So when we can we pack a cooler, the dogs (of course) up and go for a ride all day. I love to take pictures of old house places and there are lots of them. Below is a picture of a old Outhouse. This is at the Church where my family still attends. Before it was a church it was a School where both my parents attended. This was their "Outhouse" Im sure it looked much better back in it's day and I believe they said there was 2. One for the boys and one for girls. Im lucky enough I even have one of the old school desk from the old school. I even used to use it in our Church class room back when I was a kid.
